Introduction
The Imrovement of Water Sector Performance Management Framework (IWSPMF) project aims at developing the capacity of Water Directorate of the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing (MWRWH) to impliment the National Water Policy and improve the Water and Sanitation (W&S) Sector performance for achieving the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs). This will be achieved by developing a consistent and objective W&S Sector Performance Management Framework and promoting increased predicable and innovative funding for hte Sector.
The project also seek to build stakeholder confidence by promoting greater transparency and accountability through the application of unit cost data. The project is co-funded by the GoG and DFID and it compliments the DANIDA support to the Water Directorate since its inception in 2008.
Funding
The project funding is from the EU-Water Facility (58%) and supported by the DFID (21%) and the Government of Ghana (21%).
Activities
The activiites outlined below are some of the activiites intended to contribute to the development and strenthening of the W&S Sector Management Framework:
- strengthening the capacity of Water Directorate Staff through short term training and attachments to similar institutions within Africa
- establishment of the differences and gaps in stakeholders understanding of various policy variables, common terminologies, definitions and indications
- establishment of W&S Sector website and support publication of water sector news letters
- support capacity building in data provision to ensure improved accuracy of data
- Improvement of Stakeholder confidence through the engagement of civil society organisations, news media and sector practiioners for development and implimentation of strategy for improving trasparent and accountability in the W&S Sector
- collaboration with NGOs and other CSOs for marketing of W&S Investment Programme and Financing Strategy
- mobilzation of Internaitonal Finance and Donor Community in accordance with the financing strategy
- development, agreement and implimentation of roadmap for sector -wide approach
