Project Description
The Norhern Region Small Town Water and Sanitation (NORST) Project is a seven year project which will provide increased access to portal water and sanitation services to up to 30 selected small towns in the Northern Region (approximately 125,000 beneficiaries) through the design, installation, and capacity buiding support for the operation of water supply systems and appropriate sanitation facilities. The project will also strenghthen local capacity to manage and sustain services in small towns.
Project Expectation
The project is expected to have acheived the following upon completion:
- increased the capacity of stakeholders at regional, district and sub-district levels to effectively fufil their respective roles in the delivery of portable water and sanitation services.
- constructed water supply and sanitation installations that are adequately managed by water boards.
The Investment Committee Secretarait for the NORST project is hosted by the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and housing. The Investment Committee is also chaired by the Ministry of Water Resoources, Works and Housing and it is made up of representatives from the following Ministries, Development Partners and Agencies:
- Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MOFEP)
- Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD)
- Ghana Audit Service (GAS)
- Controller and Accountant General Department (CAGD)
- Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)
- Community Water and Sanitation Agency
- Northern Regional Planning and Coordinating Unit (NRPCU)
- Canadian Advisory Agency (CAA)
